ABOUT DR. ALLEN
Her Story

Dr. Allen’s original path in medicine began with a love of challenge, variety, and high-level problem solving. During medical school, a rural family practice rotation exposed her to the emergency department environment, where no two shifts were the same and every day demanded focus, adaptability, and decisive clinical thinking. She was drawn to the complexity and urgency of emergency medicine and went on to build a career in that field, caring for patients in high-acuity settings, teaching residents and medical students, and serving in academic medicine.
Over time, however, she became increasingly aware of the limitations of the traditional model for patients living with chronic symptoms and chronic disease, particularly when complex cases were reduced to fragmented visits, narrow treatment goals, and insufficient time for deeper analysis. Her perspective deepened further through her own health journey. After her third pregnancy, she faced thyroid challenges and found that the conventional answers offered little hope beyond long-term medication and procedural intervention. Determined to understand the deeper drivers of her symptoms, she pursued a functional medicine approach and, through sustained diet and lifestyle change, was able to stabilize her thyroid function and regain a stronger sense of control over her health.
That experience transformed the way she thought about medicine. Today, Dr. Allen combines conventional and integrative medicine to help patients understand why symptoms persist, identify the mechanisms contributing to chronic dysfunction, and implement a personalized plan for long-term health optimization. Her work is especially valuable for patients who want a physician capable of synthesizing a complex history, interpreting prior evaluations, and developing a more comprehensive clinical strategy. Her goal is not simply to help patients feel better temporarily, but to help them build the foundation for excellent health for years to come.

Life Outside the Office
Dr. Allen has called Austin home since 2007. She is a mom of three and has two dogs, and much of her time outside of medicine is spent supporting her kids, cheering them on in sports, and helping them become the best version of themselves. When her family has the opportunity to travel, they love getting away to the Caribbean.
